We had to motor till mid night and since then, we\’ve had WIND from just forward of the starboard beam. We\’ve been making 6-8 knots with a single reef and staysail.
At this speed, we should be in Tobago by tomorrow around noon. Blog updatd!

One other boat here (British Flag) and we\’ll go ashore into what looks like an okay little town.

We decided that since this was our last opportunity in South America for a stop over, we\’d make it a real adventure and go
up the Essequiebo River to Bartica. We\’re half way now and will go the rest tomorrow morning (21 miles). It\’s supposed to be
Eco-Tourism heaven and we\’ll let you know! It is definitely a \”Jungle Cruise\”…..

The weather has been calm and beautiful the last 24 hours and we did get to sail 50 miles of this leg. The moon was full, the seas flat and just enough wind to
move along smartly. We\’re 20 miles outside the dredged channel on the Demara River. Once there, it\’s 10-12 miles along the channel to the anchorage area.

This morning we were abeam of Paramaribo, Suriname, but the conditions did not look good for an entry.
Lots of squalls, low visibility very muddy and VERY SHALLOW water over 11 miles off the coast. Less than 18 feet.
Hence, we decided to pass and take advantage of WIND and are running before it; main and pole to starboard with the genoa.

We did get on the tour of the Space Center yesterday. All in French (which I could mostly get) and tres interesant!
I\’ll update the blog later with the story. We\’ve just passed the Ille\’s de Salut (Salvation Islands) and are headed for the one day trip
to Suriname. 155 miles to go, then 190 to Georgetown, Guyana and then the 285 to Tobago!

Still in the ITCZ, not much wind. That should change north of Suriname…

We went for the self guided walk on Ille Royal and saw the cells of the infamous prison. We went around Devil\’s Island
by dinghy (no one is allowed to go ashore). Upped anchor and have come into Korou to find out about the Space Center tour for
tomorrow…. We\’ll keep you posted.
