COMMENT: Beach House – DOCKED – San Juan Bay Marina – San Juan, Puerto Rico

We had a nice trip from Fajardo to San Juan. It\’s quite dramatic coming in the entrance with the old fort.
We\’ll do a \”Segue\” tour tomorrow of the old city. We walked it two days ago when we came here by car.
From here, we\’ll most likely do a 2 day sail to the Turks and Caicos.

COMMENT: Beach House – DOCKED – Puerto del Rey, Puerto Rico

We left the lovely island of Culebrita this morning and investigated several nice coves along the way.
Fueled up on the mainland of Puerto Rico and then discovered the very nice Marina at Puerto del Rey. (Sounds almost like home!)
We\’ll stay a few days, rent a car, drive to San Juan and decide when and where we\’re going next.

COMMENT: Beach House – MOORED – Isla Culebrita, Culebra – Puerto Rico

We went to the airport at Culebra and checked in with customs. Bought our annual entry decal for US waters.
It\’s sort of weird here. It\’s difficult to tell if this is the US (US Customs are here), but hey!…we\’re in Puerto Rico.
This anchorage is very calm and pretty. We\’ll explore tomorrow.

COMMENT: Beach House – ANCHORED – Ensenada Honda, Culebra – Puerto Rico

We did the \”Bio-Luminesent Tour\” last night. It was a bit under whelming, but fun nonetheless.
We\’ve motored over to Vieques\’ northern sister island – Culebra. Has world renowned beaches, nice anchorages.
Looks a bit like the Vava\’u Group in Tonga mixed in with the lovely reefs of the French Society Islands.
    KIT!

COMMENT: Beach House – ANCHORED – Esperanza, Isla de Vieques (US Territory)

We read the interesting beach signs and anchor buoys last night, warning us about \”unexploded ordinance\”.
Vieques until 2001 was used as a US Military firing range (but only the east side). 99% of it\’s been checked and cleared,
    but hey…gotta look anyway!

We motored up to the main town of Esperanza this morning and were met by a Wisconsin \”ex pat\” who came aboard and gave us the low down on the entire island.
We\’ll do the \”bio-luminescence tour\” this evening and see what we\’ll do from there. The \”bio tour\” is a bay that apparently we kayak in in clear bottom boats
and the underwater light show begins! We\’ll update you.

We decided not to go the 1/2 mile into Ensenada Honda as there is NOTHING there!
It\’s \”the port of entry\”…go figure. We\’ll call and check in with customs by phone (if it works) as requested.
Happy Easter….I\’ve been able to connect via HF now to Winlink – so we\’re up to date.
    New Blog soon…

COMMENT: Beach House – EN ROUTE – St. Croix to Isla de Vieques (US Territory)

We enjoyed our stay at St. Croix and really could have done it more justice. However, time is pressing a bit, so on we
sail to Isla Vieques. Most known as a former US Military bombardment island, now cleaned up and in a quasi status between
the US and Puerto Rico. It appears to be very nice and we\’ll be staying a few days before heading off to Cuelebra (it\’s sister island only
    10 miles further north).
    1/2 way to Vieques…KIT,
    Scott and Nikki

A really nice sail in lovely calm conditions. We\’re anchored here in 10 feet of water with only a few other boats.
A very nice change. We\’ll head into shore soon with our \”local knowledge\” and see what\’s going on!

Fabulous day, fabulous sail! On recommendation of friends Mike and Beth Lonnes, (who just sent us all sorts of lovely local info)
We\’re off to the most remote and least visited of the USVI. Full report soon. Next blog will be on St. Barth\’s.
It is very strange to be hearing the USCG on the VHF! We re-set our radio back from International VHF channels to US VHF channels
in St. Maarten. Getting close to the USA!

COMMENT: Beach House – ANCHORED – Christmas Cove, Great St. James Island (USVI)

Nikki got to get her mini tour of Charlotte Amalie and we re-proved what we already knew… \”Cruise Ship Central\”.

We may go to St. Croix (32 miles south) of here tomorrow if the weather works out, which it should.
Nice anchorage, 30 boats or so, but not too crowded.

Happy Birthday to \”Beach House\”! 10 years ago today, \”Beach House\” was launched.
Hugs to you all, keep all those you love – very close.
