Flew the spinnaker is light to dying breeze till early this morning when the proverbial towel was thrown in and we dropped the spinnaker
and are now motoring. We\’ve had several squalls within the last three hours and they\’re mostly wind thieves and rain makers.
Nice to get the boat washed!

A really amazing experience last night…it\’s all in the blog which will be up by the time most of you read this!

PINCH ME! See if I\’m awake! What an incredible sail we\’ve had the last 14 hours. It\’s almost flat water and we\’re beam reaching with the spinnaker up
in 12 knots of wind doing 7-10 knots! Yesterday, I figured out that by adding more dagger board, the boat steering really behaves much better.
We\’ve changed time to -1 on GMT (Fernando is at -2 GMT).

\”Jongilanga\” just departed ahead of us and we\’ll pass him in a few hours. He\’s single handing and running very short sail.
We\’ve enjoyed our stay here at Ascension Island….Next stop, \”The America\’s\”…wow….

The swell is down (so is the wind) but we\’ll just be comfortable. This passage should be slow and we\’re using the 160 nm average for daily runs in
our planning. That may be optimistic! Near the end, there will be squalls and small low pressure systems forming off the \”beak\” of South America.

We made it in at 5pm. GOOD THING TOO. Their floating pipeline was only 50 yds ahead of us when we saw it.
This is a known hazzard here and I\’m glad we had the light of day to see it.

A bit rolly here. Anchored in 35 feet (10.5 meters).
We sailed 839 miles – Ave = 8.06 kts. The straight line distance (Rhumb Line) was 700 miles. We had to jibe often
as we were heading mostly – directly downwind.

All safe and sound, a good nights sleep will be had and hope we can go ashore tomorrow.

Congratulations to Dave and Kathie on \”Sunflower\” for making landfall in Grenada today! 3070 miles in 22 days. It was a touch trip north of the equator for them and we
hope to avoid some of their ITCZ/Doldrum grief by staying closer to the South American coast. We shall see how those plans work out in the near future.

We had a brilliant spinnaker run last night from 5 pm to 4 am and covered 105 miles! Speeds were rarely below 8.5 knots and I saw several in the mid teens, one at 16.5 knots! Go Miss Piggy. We weren\’t making enough speed before the spinnaker run to have made in daylight today, now ….no worries. We should be in well before dark.
It\’s 8 am local time and we\’ve only 48 miles to the end of the island. We\’re still sailing smartly at 6.5-8.5 knots with the single reefed main and genoa poled to port. We\’ll have one more jibe in about 30 miles from our current location.

Next report will be from the anchorage when in safe harbor. Expecting about a 4 day, 8 hour trip. Today\’s run, our best at 190 nm.

We\’ve 210 miles to go to the SE corner of Ascension Island. Wind is a bit light, but conditions are extremely comfortable.
We HOPE to be at anchor by tomorrow dark. It\’ll be a bit of a push, but I think we\’ll make it. Lots of commercial mooring field stuff to avoid
and I want to get into the shallower area to anchor closer to the beach; but NOT in the dark. We\’ve a waypoint outside the commercial field in 18 meters (60 feet)
of water if we need to anchor outside for the night. Friends Dave and Kathie on \”Sunflower\” are only about 12 hours out of Grenada and had a record (for them) 199 mile day yesterday. \”Sunflower\” must be smelling the barn!…. Or at least the Admiral is….:-)))
