We left Dunk Island at 0630 this morning. We found the resort closed and effectively destroyed by last year\’s Cyclone Yasi. Photos will eventually follow! 83 miles and 10 hours later we arrived two days ahead of our very loose schedule. We\’ll be here for at least 3 days before heading north to Port Douglas, Cooktown and beyond. KIT, Scott and Nikki

Well after seeing the crocodile last night as we arrived we were treated to a wonderful sunset and moon rise behind \”The Thumb\” on Hinchinbrook Island. This morning, we used my sextant with it\’s heavy dark filters and watched \”live\” the transit of Venus across the sun in crystal clear, cloudless skies. It lasted about 6 plus hours. We felt much like Captain Cook when he was sent to Tahiti to witness the same event which happens in pairs about every 110 years! The weather is nice, the area very picturesque. Our shortest day today, only 34 miles. One day boat here and the resort is closed due to extensive damage from Cyclone Yasi 16 months ago. KIT, Scott and Nikki

Nikki and I have been on the look out for a crocodile sighting. WE NOW HAVE ONE! And it\’s only 200 feet from the boat on the river bank with it\’s mouth wide open (temperature control) and staring at us!…..We\’ll close up tonight!.. Nice sail, exciting entry over the river bar at the southern end of the island (Port Lucinda). We touched the mud on the way in. Nothing damaged but my pride… Gayundah creek is a mangrove. Remote and very picturesque. I feel like we\’re in the midst of the mangrove jungle with a beautiful mountain on Hinchinbrook to our east. KIT, Scott and Nikki

Well!…I initially went up the Ross River instead of Ross Creek. Cost us a bit of time and an interesting side trip was had in all of 4.9 to 7 feet of water! Yikes! Tide was rising from absolute low and it\’s 12 feet (4 meters here today). So more water was a good thing. We had a tricky unassisted docking in the river current and Nikki handled the lines perfectly! Be here in Townsville and environs for a few days. Cheers, Scott and Nikki
